About Colin Breslin

Colin Breslin is a realism and abstract painter based out of Ft. Lauderdale FL. Although he has recently made a shift toward abstract painting, he accredits much of his current skills to consistent practice in drawing from life. He has received a formative education in both traditional painting methods and more contemporary, concept-driven approaches. He recently graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Fine arts Degree. Colin has also spent the past several years working alongside his father, immersing himself in the business of custom woodwork. Through this he has gained valuable hands-on experience and had the opportunity to help with installations for wealthy homeowners across the Ft. Lauderdale area. Colin’s experience in custom woodwork has inspired a love for modern design choices. Some of the features that have caught his attention include the use of simplicity and minimalism, deconstructionism, and dynamic lines/ angles. In his most recent paintings, Colin has embraced non-representational abstraction. These large scale works are created using a more restrictive process. He initiates each painting by dividing the surface into a grid and then begins breaking it down into new shapes. This process has proven to be generative as new shapes and forms seem to burst out of the canvas. Going forward Colin intends to bring his dream to fruition by building a lucrative business around his work. He finds great satisfaction in sharing his artistic vision with others and enhancing new spaces with vibrant imagery. Ultimately he intends to become a renowned artist and wishes to inspire others to follow their passions.
